btw, thanks for this individual acceptation of my application ;P
and i think there would not have been any difference in Julius Caesars conquests.
Caesars main ambition was to get more land for rome and to become proconsul of the new conquered land, because he was nearly insolvent after is time as aedile. Nearly all roman proconsuls used their term in office to get as rich as they could to get back the money they used for payoffs etc.  Caesar did this, too. He only needed an Opponent with alot of land to conquer. And in this period of time, when he was searching the right aim, the tribe of the helvetii made one big mistake.
They wanted to leave their old homeland, because it was too small for their growing tribe, so their chief, orgetorix, came to Caesar and asked for the permission of taking a route through the Roman country. but Caesar denied this permission, and the helvetii, who had no other choice, had to go through the roman land without Caesars permission. so he had a good reason to declare them the war. in the following months he defaeted them and in the following years he defeated all other old french tribes, because he was in a very good Military Position to attack them. ( he already had defeated the first of them, which was, how he thought the stongest one, so it was an easy decision to attack the rest). So all of this was just a military decision, where the language didn´t matter.
And all romans were scared of the babaric people in the north anyway, so they never thought of conquering them, until 9 AD. when the roman army got heavily defeated by arminius the cherusci.
after this, the desire of conquering germania was totally gone. ^^
And again it was not a matter of the language.

our american clanmembers should know it ... ^^
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leyte
it was the battle between the USA and Japan in WW2, where the USA finally began the war with Japan.
In the eyes of many People it was nearly too late to influence the war in the pacific.
(man, where is your history education ?! ;P )

pffft medieval isnt that interresting. They call it "The Dark Ages" for a reason :p (ok no medieval is probably very interresting but i just don't know stuff about it. I know it has a lot of feudal twists and uprisings of small kingdoms, the feudal system etc etc )

I thought that Julius fought against Helvetii, because they tried to tress pass through Romes neighbors lands. By beating Helvetii Julius managed to gain some military access to north where he met Suebis army and their leader Areovistus. The problem was that Areovistus was a lifetime ally of Rome, but it had crossed danube, and taken lands of Julius's new allies. Caesar started an illegal war with Areovistus and killed him on at the Danube river. This got some political issues at senate and Julius was ordered to trial for murdering Romes ally.
After Julius had taken new soils from Areovistus he had a free market to attack what ever Celtic tribes he found from west. In the end even his allies at northern Italy joined forces with Vercingetorix to fight at Alesia as we know.

Thing is that Suebi was very scary opponent and it had superior cavalry against Caesars Extraordinarii. Reason he won was because Suebi had some religious reasons why not to fight at that given time and they retreated to shores of Danube where Rome had terrain advantage.

Maybe war against germanic maniacs would have been more difficult to Caesar, had to say, but it would have changed few things...

But it's based manly in books of Conn Iggulden, some things I know from Rome TV-series (Story is nice through Titus Pullo and Veronicus but all the real characters except Pompei where terrible).

I loved the Rome tv series. The gladiator bit with Titus Pullo was bad ass.

Rome tv-series was very good. But the interpretation of the historic characters was almost like the opposite of what to expect from books. Maybe it was a twist that the author intended to do. I like how Brutus felt remorse after murdering his friend, and also how he walked unarmored to the lines of enemy legions to die. I also like the poor Pompei alot in tv-series. The audience doesn't know it, but he was a great man with very strong authority. He lost to Julius just because he was afraid of him, in TV-series they barely told how close Julius was to loose that day at the battle of Pharsalus.
